It was a horrible experience! At the beginning of our vacation in Crete, we decided to join a quad tour together on one quad. Although the explanation about the quad seemed rushed, we enjoyed the first hour on the road.
Unfortunately, everything went wrong after that. The driver of the quad in front of us suddenly started braking and skidded. At that moment, we knew we wouldn't be able to stop in time. We were convinced that we would collide with the quad in front of us, and eventually, we were both thrown off the quad. We were shocked and had significant injuries on our bodies. One of us had back and hip pain, while the other had difficulty standing on her legs and felt very dizzy.
We immediately asked for a taxi or medical help, but no one listened to us. The people organizing the tour said that nothing was wrong and that we could just ride with other participants to finish the tour. According to them, it would only take another 20 minutes. We felt helpless and had no way out. We were in the middle of the mountains at that time, filled with fear and shock, and reluctantly decided to follow their instructions due to a lack of alternatives, despite repeatedly expressing our desire to leave.
Sitting on the quad with a stranger, we felt dizzy and feared passing out. We rode on paved and unpaved roads. Every bump and pothole was felt in our bodies. It was a nightmare! As we sat there, the realization of what had happened slowly sank in. We were clearly in a state of shock, shivering in 25-degree weather. We also didn't know what awaited us.
Eventually, we arrived at a viewpoint where everyone was going to enjoy the sunset. At that moment, we were the only ones left with the quad. Walking was barely possible, and it caused intense pain. One of the organizers brought us water upon our request, and the other began treating our wounds with some supplies they had. It was very painful. At that moment, we once again expressed our desire to leave, but it was ignored once again.
Furthermore, we must mention that the organizers made sexist comments, including remarks about the nice buttocks I had (I had to hold up my shorts so that the wounds wouldn't stick to my pants).
One of the organizers named Stan claimed that they were all superficial abrasions and that we should just go into the sea the next day, and everything would be fine, and the wounds would heal quickly. We were forced to finish the tour... upon returning to the starting point (several hours after the accident), we had to pay €280 for the quad's damage. When the contactless payment didn't work at once, Stan wanted us to pay in cash. He said he wanted to make sure we could drive ourselves home and even went with us to an ATM. All we wanted was to be able to go home as quickly as possible, so we reluctantly agreed to withdraw the money in cash.
Once home, we stood under the shower to clean our wounds. The next day, we decided to see a doctor; the symptoms were getting worse, and we wanted to be examined by professionals. To our surprise, the wounds turned out to be much more severe than what the tour organizers had thought. Walking was extremely difficult, and our bodies were bruised from the fall. One of us also had neck and hip pain. We had to visit the doctor multiple times to have our wounds treated and checked. A hip X-ray was also taken. One of the wounds even got infected, and antibiotics were prescribed. Going into the water was out of the question due to the infected wounds. This terrible incident overshadowed our entire vacation.
It was never determined if we had internal injuries by the organizers of this tour. Dizziness is not a good sign outside of the visible physical wounds we had. It is absolutely unacceptable for a tour organizer to act in such a irresponsible manner. It is unthinkable that they left us to our own devices and prioritized commercial interests over our health. A tour organizer should have insurance coverage for accidents, and the fact that they made us pay in cash, as young and shocked women, is beyond acceptable limits.
We are considering taking legal action against this company and filing a complaint with Tripadvisor. Such practices should not go unpunished!
